Everything is better with bacon! 🙂
Continuing the tapas posts on the blog with an all time favorite. I have to admit I don’t remember the first time I tried this little dish, but it has been a mandatory element on all tapas tables with friends no matter who is serving the food. It is so simple, yet so well appreciated and delicious. It adds a great deal of sweetness to your tapas meal. Tapas is in general often quite salty with hams, cheeses and seafood. These little gems add a very welcomed sweet touch! 🙂
There is not much of a recipe to write about, the ingredients are dates and thin cut bacon rashes. The best is to use dates without pips, but if you can’t find that, just make sure to warn your guests.
If the bacon rashes are long, cut them in two.
Wrap the bacon around the dates, one by one.
Put them in an oven proof dish
Cook at 200 degrees Celsius for approximately 15 minutes. Once you can see the bacon is cooked and starting to get dark, they are finished.
This is a definite crowd pleaser and there is always praise from the guests about these little treats.
You can change them up and make them slightly healthier by using cured ham (Serrano or similar) instead of bacon. But then, tapas is not something you eat on a daily basis. You deserve a treat every now and then too!
