Pizza is something the boys will always eat! If I ask what they would like for dinner, 9 our of 10 times, the 4 year old will answer pizza. He doesn’t get pizza 9 out of 10 times of course, but with some little tweaks to the recipes, you can easily make pizza a healthy meal for the family.
After a pretty cold Summer, we were starting to doubt that we would really get much of a crop this year, but suddenly 2 weeks ago, the strawberries started to ripen. Together with our trusted rhubarb, it makes for a delicious jam.
This year’s Summer has been a bit on the cold side, especially when comparing to last year which was completely awesome. This has lead to the growing season going ahead very slowly and us wondering whether we would have much to harvest at all this year. Luckily, the crops are now finally starting to show themselves and we have been able to enjoy homegrown food.
During the vacation time, we like to find new places to visit and sometimes you see an advertisement or even just a comment online and think “let’s check it out”. This place is one of those. I randomly saw a short note in a small pamphlet and thought we should go visit to see what it was like. With these places, it can be anything from a small run down farm shop (which we also found on our vacation) to and old majestic farm with the scenery and quality to go with it. This one was on the latter end of the scale. It is a huge old brick farm with a gorgeous yard.
Getting my two little monkey’s to eat their fruits is actually not very difficult. They tend to devour most fruits put in front of them. But they enjoy some changes and inspiration every now and then too.
The Summer vacation came upon us just as quickly and surprisingly as it ended. I unintentionally took a break from the blog during this time and have now recently been working on some posts to get back on track with the blog again.
During the last couple of months, I have been so lucky to have been nominated for several awards too and my conscience is pretty horrible on that end. But, I am working on posts to say my thanks and respond to them all and hope to be posting them soon. All work in progress!
Now this is just sticky, fluffy, sugar deliciousness! A childhood memory of birthdays with kids high on sugar after only a couple of bites! But so incredibly fun and delicious. I made this for our son’s 2nd birthday on the weekend and it was a hit with the kids indeed. Continue reading
The Summer is really not arriving this year in Norway. We are seeing record low temperatures for May and June is not seeming to get much better. Temperatures are still in the low teens and the garden progression is slow at best.
We are doing our best to use the limited produce we have already, but I hope we will be getting more fruits and vegetables to chose from soon. Continue reading
It is always a challenge to find new and exciting dishes to serve that is interesting to both the kids and us adults. The boys are still so young that they really prefer fairly simple dishes and would happily eat sausages everyday if they had been allowed to. And it is really difficult not to end up in a circle of serving the same dishes over and over. Every now and then I come across ideas for dishes that I can use to make meals we can enjoy together with the boys and that can fairly easily be made into an interesting meal for everyone. It has been a long and exhausting but fun day filled with way too much food. That is always the case when celebrating anything in Norway really and today we celebrated the Norwegian Constitution Day. The main cake of the day was featured in my previous post and that was a rich and flavorful cake that got the reaction you always want to get when putting time and effort into a good bake.
